About the DEC

Designed by architect Mike Lyons, the DEC was officially opened in October 2012. Shortly afterwards, the DEC was given an award by the Salisbury Civic Society for outstanding design and was given high praise for enhancing the area.

A unique feature of this award-winning building is a grass and wildflower roof which is a haven in the summer for birds, bees and butterflies. Viewed from the north, the building virtually disappears, nestling into the surrounding fields with the chalk downs beyond.

The DEC is home to the Diocesan Board of Education, which serves the needs of children and young people in Church of England schools and parishes across most of Wiltshire and Dorset.

The DEC is easily accessible, offering extensive free parking and full disabled access.
